Found a job that might actually fit with my kids school schedule and it is TYPING. Here is my history with getting a typist job.

Me: "Hi, here is my typing speed test clocking me at 86 wpm."

Them: "We don't believe it. Take our test."

*scores a 108 wpm*

Them: "Wow that's amazing!"

Me: "So I get the job?"

Them: "...no."

I even worked with an agency to get me a job and they were absolutely dumbfounded at how every single opportunity resulted in me being turned down.

When I was applying for a ultrasound tech program, I had met their pre-requisites, scored a 4.0 GPA and during our yearly meetings (did this for 3 years while waitlisted) was told outright that their program has had difficulty with men getting the required experience on the floor and that I was "Very intimidating." A term I've heard for so long.

"Very intimidating" is one of the weirdest assessments of me as a person. I do not hold some air of superiority, or claim that by being a man I must be respected. I have always been a person who is respectful, humble and compassionate. And that title has haunted my brain as a person. I am guessing I just look upset or something when I am focused and engaged.... because I've got nothing.

@Bogusmeatfactory Good grief. You're so nice! This definitely has the vibe of people discriminating against your affect or something.

@HauntedOwlbear I wouldn't say it's discrimination really. I kind of had to justify it as like a personality conflict. I genuinely care about what I do, even if I, as a person, did not have an interest in the job before taking it. I've learned that sort of behavior can cause problems for folks. It's weird. So essentially, if the workplace is with mature people who care and are down to earth, it works well. If the workplace is towing the line and drudgery, they don't like me shaking things up.

@Bogusmeatfactory I've been told this because I have resting bitch face. Once someone at a job years ago complained to my manager because I didn't *wave and smile at them as they walked to the restroom*

@codinginquarantine Yeah... even after 24 years of knowing my wife, she still is anxious while I drive, because my face apparently looks so angry, but I am just very focused.
